Shadow Traits, Types & Profiles, 1

This training provides an in-depth understanding of the 12 Shadow Traits that form the basis of our Shadow Types personality and profile. Learning these traits enables us to understand ourselves and others better. Completion of this training fulfills one of the requirements for becoming a Certified Shadow Types Coach.

In part 1 of Shadow Traits, Types and Profiles profiles, we gain an overview of the Shadow Types method for understanding people—how we are the same as other people, how we are uniquely different, what our gifts are, and where our shadows are likely to fall. We identify 12 primary tendencies—the “Shadow Traits”— that we are born with and which are like a toolkit, helping us to survive and thrive in life. We discover the value of each trait, how it serves us when balanced and how it can backfire if suppressed or inflated, leading to dysfunction and negative reactions from other people. We recognize how these 12 tendencies represent four main parts of our self, aka archetypes.

Using the Shadow Types “Houses” Graphic, we map our unique expressions of the 12 traits and 4 archetypes, based on our results from the Shadow Types survey. The outcome is a visual image of our own, individual configuration of Shadow Traits—our Shadow Types Profile. By showing the varying degrees to which we express (or repress) the Shadow Traits and archetypes, our Shadow Types Profile gives us a holistic picture of our personality, including our individual gifts as well as our potential shadows. With this holistic picture, we take a deeper look into the patterns and relationships between the traits and archetypes: how some traits may function in opposition to each other; how other traits and archetypes may complement each other to form a loop between them; and how key dichotomies between different loops may affect our lives.
