Jim Brooks is a medical doctor who has spent his life helping people create health for themselves through natural medicine. He is both a practicing psychiatrist and a practitioner of Classical Five-Element Acupuncture. He has also studied and practiced Ayurvedic medicine for many years and is a teacher of the Transcendental Meditation technique.
Jim was introduced to Shadow Work® through the ManKind Project. He describes how, in his first Shadow Work® process, he gained more than he had in four years of intensive psychoanalysis as a psychiatric resident: “The well-crafted techniques of Shadow Work® enabled me to identify and release suppressed emotions that had been blocking my creativity and capacity for fulfilling intimate relationships.” Becoming a Certified Shadow Work® Facilitator and Coach was a natural next step.
Jim received his M.D. degree from Wayne State University in Detroit and did his psychiatric residency at the University of Colorado in Denver. He is the co-author of the book Ayurvedic Secrets to Longevity and Total Health (Prentice Hall) and the author of Reflections on Maharishi Ayurveda and Mental Health (MUM Press). He has also authored many journal articles and book chapters on Ayurveda and mental health and has published important research on the benefits of the Transcendental Meditation technique in the treatment of Vietnam veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
In addition to facilitating Shadow Work, Jim and his wife Linda have been certified by Rich and Char Tosi to lead A Couples Weekend, a transformational weekend for couples. They have helped many couples take their relationship to a new level of intimacy and connection, both through the weekend workshop and through in-person and online couples coaching.
